Pitchfork har förändrats sen de publicerade sin förra lista av 90-talets bästa skivor. Musikvärlden har förändrats sedan dess.

... / our perceptions of the decade are different now, our personal tastes have expanded, our knowledge of the music has deepened, and excepting myself, Mark Richardson and Brent DiCrescenzo, the staff has turned over twice. It got me to thinking about how the musical landscape, too, continually changes. Revisionism ushers in new classics which had simply been forgotten, or altogether undiscovered, and while most truly essential albums will always be represented on these types of lists, even their relevance can be dictated by current trends.

Det mest märkbara är att hiphop:en exploderat, inte bara bland en särskild klick utan över hela musikvärlden. Pitchfork är på vissa sätt indiemusikens sista bastion, men även där märks 14 hiphop-skivor, med dominans av Wu-Tang som faktiskt slog in dörren till rockrummen. Den andra märkbara förändringen av listan är elektronisk musik och framför allt dess inverkan på resten av musikvärlden.

Eftersom jag var nyfiken själv på hur den jämförde sig med förra listan samt att jag inte får någon överblick så listade jag om den. Ska fundera över dagen hur min egen lista ser ut. Spontant måste jag dock utbrista: "The Downward Spiral"?!
